Ceramides play a role as intercellular lipids that coat natural moisturizing factors in the stratum corneum, which are released from the granular layer.
When there is a lack of ceramides, the balance of oil and moisture is disrupted, leading to inflammation, rough and cracked skin, and dryness due to the penetration of external harmful substances.
As can be seen from the role of ceramides, they account for about 50% as intercellular lipids and have both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties, preventing the movement of moisture and increasing the moisture-holding capacity of the stratum corneum by forming strong bonds between cells.
